Hudson Surrenders, Large Rewards Work

The $10,000 reward offered by the Illinois State Crime Commission for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Jerry "Shorty" Hudson in the murder of Melissa Bridgewater is being credited for Hudson's voluntary appearance at the Oak Brook Police Department to turn himself in.

"Hudson probably thought even his own relatives might inform on him with this kind of money offered," said Jerry Elsner, Executive Director of the ISCC.

"The Illinois State Crime Commission, when the need is there, has always offered large rewards that make an impact," continued Elsner. "This shows large rewards work."

FOLLOWING IS PRESS RELEASE FROM DAY PRIOR TO HUDSON'S SURRENDER

$10,000 Reward Offered in Oak Brook Murder

"The Illinois State Crime Commission won't stand for crimes like these, we will respond and we will take action," said Executive Director, Jerry Elsner.

The Illinois State Crime Commission offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Jerry L. Hudson.

DuPage County State's Attorney, Joe Birkett announced Monday that first degree murder charges have been filed in the New Year's Day murder of Melissa Bridgewater of Bolingbrook at the Double Tree Hotel in Oak Brook. Authorities have charged Bridgewater's ex-husband, Hudson, of Bolingbrook.

"He pinned her by running his car in to hers, a rental vehicle, he then opened fire", Birkett said.

Bridgewater was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Hudson fled the scene and is still at large. He is considered armed and dangerous.

"The reward is the least we can do given the loss of life and the horrible way this crime happened," Elsner said.

Anyone with any information is urged to call either Oak Brook Police at (630) 368-8701, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office (630) 407-8000, or the Illinois State Crime Commission.
